Grimoire is a two-player spell-based fighting game in development for the Guildhall at SMU.  Fireballs and lightning bolts replace the traditional fighting game kicks and punches in this tournament of magic.

Grimoire

Players can cast quick spells with a tap of the spell button or hold down the spell button for about half a second (shown by the effect on the right) and cast a charged spell.  I designed this as a simple risk/reward mechanic - charged spells have more powerful effects, but the player is vulnerable to enemy attacks while charging.  This screen shot is pre-Alpha.
