Level Name: The Mole Within

Engine: Hammer (Half-Life 2)

Duration: Five months

The Mole Within is a Masters research project on how to efficiently create non-linear gameplay within a given playspace by reusing game assets and gameplay scripting. The single-player level provides the player with gameplay choices that affect their playing experience as they try and secure incriminating evidence against an evil corporation. The exit of the level is located near the player's starting location, indicating that they must make their way back there again later. The same playspace gets reused but the player's choices affect how the level plays out.

 

Level Name: The Mad Maze

Engine: Radiant (Quake 4)

Duration: 2.5 months

The Mad Maze is a single-player level that focuses on giving players path choices that affect the playing experience. The player must navigate the maze in order to escape after being imprisoned there by an entity known as Madman Chew. The player chooses a path to take and is bound to that path until they reach the next area, where they choose to stay on the current path or switch to another. Their path choices affect how the level plays out, as well as the types of weapons and pickups they obtain.

 

Level Name: Time to Go!

Engine: Radiant (Quake 4)

Duration: One week

Time to Go! is a spin-off level from The Mad Maze, where the game and art assets were reused to create a new gameplay scenario. The player's objective is to make a dash for the exit after escaping from a prison cell through the ventilation shafts. The level is a shorter version of The Mad Maze, with the emphasis on fast-paced action.

 

Level Name: Burning Desire

Engine: UnrealEd (Unreal Tournament 2004)

Duration: Three weeks

Burning Desire is a 6-player Deathmatch map that takes place inside the crater of a live volcano, and resembles the classic Quake 3 map entitled DM-17. The main gameplay component revolves around jumping to and from the different platforms using the lava spouts.

 

Game Name: Burning Method, Chilling Technique

Scripting Language: Lua 5.1

Duration: Six weeks

Burning Method, Chilling Technique is a 2D role-playing game that features a skill-based level up system where the player allocates skill points after gaining enough experience by killing monsters. After gaining enough levels and experience, the player attempts to defeat the Evil Monster taking residence in a cave nearby.The two variations of fire and ice attacks (single target and area of effect) require the appropriate crystals and quantity to execute.

 

Level Name: A Tale of Twisted Souls

Engine: Aurora Toolset (Neverwinter Nights)

Duration: Two weeks

A Tale of Twisted Souls is a short story created in Neverwinter Nights that follows the adventures of the player as they seek to gain tutelage under the Grand Wizard. The player gets involved in a power struggle between two parties that eventually leads to a twist in the finale. The player completes tasks for NPCs and explores several different areas, including the snowy mountain ranges and an underground cave.
