The
Complete Abridged History of David Demaree…
I was born
on February 9, 1982, and I have lived in Texas my entire
life. In spite of my permanent residency in Texas, I
have traveled to many different states and countries
including California, Montana, Nevada, Missouri,
Pennsylvania, Florida, Canada, Mexico, Germany, and
France, to name a few.
I have been
an avid gamer since childhood. The first digital games I
remember playing were on the ColecoVision. It belonged
to my older brother, but I was also allowed to play it
sometimes. My favorite games on ColecoVision were
Frogger, Q*bert, and Popeye. I was not
particularly good at any of them because I was only
three or four years old, but I do remember beating some
levels in Popeye. That’s probably why I liked it.
The funniest thing I remember about the system was that
you could mess up the first player by using the second
player controller while they played, or vice versa. Ah,
the memories of my older brother punching my arm for
doing that.
When I was
five or six years old, my parents surprised me with my
very own Nintendo Entertainment System for Christmas. My
favorite Nintendo games were probably Mega Man 4
and The Legend of Zelda. I went on to buy a Super
Nintendo Entertainment System when I was in the fifth or
sixth grade, where I discovered Sid Meier’s
Civilization. Civilization is the game
responsible for getting me interested in Personal
Computer games. Up to that point, I thought that
computers were not much more than a tool for grown-ups.
I had been a “console kid”, or more precisely, a
“Nintendo kid” up to that point, but after playing
Civilization, I realized that some of the best
digital games were made for the PC. I didn’t get my own
PC that was good enough to run a current generation of
games until after high school, but I was able to play
Civilization II on our family computer for many
years during high school. With Civilization II, I
also began dabbling in game development. I made a mod
for Civilization II that changed the names of all
the races and their cities. I also liked to play around
with the cheat mode and see how the computer would play
the game after I set up scenarios for it.
It
was not until I graduated high school that I found a way
to pursue the career I wanted. I realized that I could
do what I loved and use it to earn a living. For me,
this meant I would need to follow my passion and forge a
career in the game industry. This passion led me to the
Guildhall in 2005 where I joined the other fine students
of Cohort 5 on a journey to pursue our dreams. What I
created at the Guildhall can be seen on the other pages
of this website. Below, you can view my top ten favorite
game and movie lists. Enjoy your stay at my website! |
