Bubba's Bug Bomb Bonanza

Bubba was the first project I worked on at the Guildhall. Our team consisted of two Level Designers and one Artist. Bubba was a 2D Side scroller made in the Scrolling Game Development Kit.

I created the second level of the game, the basement of a nuclear power plant. My fellow Level Designer and I found ourselves in a situation about 1/3 of the way into the project when our artist left the Guildhall for personal reasons. The artist left us with an animated main character, and a single sprite for each of the enemies. This forced us to improvise on most of our art assets. This meant using renders of 3ds Max objects that we cut up in Photoshop to make the gameplay tiles; as well as cutting up and manipulating the enemies to make animated sprites out of still images.

The basis of the game is this:

You are Bubba, the exterminator, called in by FEMA to rid a nuclear power plant of mutant insects with your arsenal of chemical sprays and bug bombs. While trying to squeeze more power out of the current facility using the newly discovered and highly volatile Plutonium-13 the undetected Gamma rays have taken their toll and mutated the nearby insect population. It is now up to Bubba to save the day as well as save the scientists still trapped inside the facility. Luckily the frequencies that the Gamma rays radiate at have no effect on the human body. It is this reason that the radiation leakage has gone undetected, as all the sensors and failsafe systems have been calibrated with human safety in mind.
